We begin with ancient, sensationally figured hardwood trees harvested in the Northeast forests of the Adirondack Mountains.  Wood sections are divided into "cants" and turned into "the round" on a lathe, for the desired shape to emerge using sharp cutting tools . The piece is left to stabilize & dry slowly to minimize shrinkage which can cause wood to crack.
