The  Final  Turn  Studio

Rob & Cherie Lasher are a husband and wife team who turn finely finished lamps, candle stands and vases in their home workshop, using ancient, sensationally figured hardwood trees harvested in the Northeast forests of the Adirondack Mountains.  Weather, vibrant wood grains, spaltation marking from fungal spores, insect tracks and pressure fissures enhance the unique character of tiger & curled maple.

"Northrnlights" lamps, vases & candle stand designs are individually lathe turned by hand.  Once the piece is "rough turned", it is put aside to stabilize over a period of several weeks to months, depending on the moisture content of the wood. Once stabilized, the work continues as it is turned into the round again for the final shaping, sanding and burnishing with oil.

A lustrous, hand rubbed satin finish protects heirloom quality pieces for generations.  Multiple coats of a durable polymer produces a "glass like" surface, which is carefree and resistant to moisture.

Finishes are either natural or artistically hand painted in rich decorator colors.  Artist oil paint blends and contrasts are used to compliment the wood grain as well as the living environments where they are enjoyed as "functional art".  Each unique turning is timelessly classic and compliments traditional, rustic or contemporary living spaces.
